Dawson Signs Nebraska Guard
6'2 guard Mikey Ngoyi signed a National Letter of Intent with the Dawson Buccaneers basketball program.
"Mikey is exactly what we were looking for," explained Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "He is an extremely high character young man, hard-working and a great teammate. His basketball IQ, athleticism and ability to make plays for himself and for others will be a great fit with what we already have. I think he will be ready to step in and make an impact on our program and school right away."
Ngoyi averaged 17.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game this past year. His Lincoln Southeast team finished the year 17-9 and reached the state semifinals which was their first final four appearance since 2010. Ngoyi was a three time state tournament qualifier and three time district champion. He was named a Second Team "Super State" selection and was a Second Team All-State selection in Class A as a senior.
His high school coach, Joey Werning, had this to say, "With Mikey Ngoyi you are getting a winner. He is a high character kid that elevates those around him. Mikey has played a pivotal role in helping Lincoln Southeast get back to its winning tradition, qualifying for the state tournament 3 consecutive seasons. Mikey's leadership, character, work ethic and skill set will help to make him a valuable addition to the Buccaneers."
As a junior, Ngoyi averaged 10.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game, leading his team to a HAC Conference Championship and being named as an Honorable Mention All-State selection.
The newly signed Buccaneer shared his excitement, "Dawson is everything I want in a school… a school that believes in me, has a great culture and loves to win."
