Dawson’s Seth Amunrud Signs with D1 Denver University
On Wednesday, Buccaneer Seth Amunrud signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Denver Pioneers basketball team. The 6'4 guard has had a great start to the season, averaging 24.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per game while shooting 55% from the field, 54% from the 3-point line and 91% from the free throw line. He is leading the 5-1 Buccaneers in six statistical categories.
Amunrud explained his decision, "I chose Denver because the coaching staff cares about me and my development both in basketball and as a person. They have very strong academics and a good basketball program that is getting better every year. Going there allows me to compete at a really high level and be part of a team that has a chance to do something special!"
The University of Denver is 3-2 on the season so far. They beat Montana State on Sunday and will play at the University of Montana next Sunday. Last year they finished 16-16 and reached the Summit League Championship Game before losing to South Dakota State 68-76.
Amunrud was a two time Montana Class C Basketball State Champion at Manhattan Christian. His senior year he was selected by Rocky Erickson as the MVP of the Montana-Wyoming All-Star series. In his freshman year at Dawson, Amunrud was the third leading scorer, averaging 13.7 points while shooting 87.5% from the free throw line to lead the Mon-Dak Conference. He also contributed 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game while helping Dawson to a 25-7 overall record.
"I am so happy for Seth," shared Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "I think he's one of the best basketball players to come out of high school in Montana in the past ten years. He made an immediate impact here at Dawson and hasn't stopped getting better since the day he arrived. His daily habits and work ethic are at an elite level. There's really nothing he can't do on the basketball court. Denver is getting a gem!"
Amunrud and the Bucs are back in action this weekend at the Coach Collins Heart of a Champion Classic in Powell, Wyoming. They will play Central Wyoming College at 3:30 pm on Friday and the hosts, Northwest College, at 4:00 pm on Saturday.
