
Bucs Get Back to Winning Ways
After dropping their first game of the season last Saturday, the Dawson Buccaneers stormed out to a 50-20 half-time lead and cruised to a 93-50 victory against Central Wyoming College at the Coach Collins Heart of a Champion Classic in Powell, Wyoming. The win boosts their record to 6-1 on the young season.
The Bucs jumped out to an 11-2 lead early and never looked back. In the first half Dawson forced 11 turnovers and held the Rustlers to 30% shooting from the field and 1-11 from the 3-point line. All eleven Buccaneers who suited up scored in the first half as they shot 58% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line. In the second half, Dawson pushed the lead to 40 points and eventually had a 49 point lead with 7:25 remaining. The Bucs connected on 64% from the field in the second half and 50% from long range (6-12). For the game, they shot 60% from the field and 45% from beyond the arc.
"I was impressed with how we came out defensively to start the game," commented Coach Joe Peterson. "There was a sense of urgency and togetherness in how we played and we maintained that edge throughout the first 32 minutes of the game. On the offensive end we shared the ball tonight as well as we have all season. Justin was really efficient and did a great job of getting everyone involved. And it was great getting Troy Hugs back in the lineup after all he's been through the past few weeks."
Justin Asi led the way with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Seth Amunrud scored 17 points on only 7 shots; and had 5 assists to go along with 3 steals. Jordan Jasper rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points and 8 assists. Julian Ormond led Central Wyoming with 17 points.
Dawson will play the host, Northwest College, on Saturday at 4:00 pm in Powell, WY.
