Dawson Erupts for 125 Points in Win Over Jamestown
The Dawson Buccaneers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the opening two minutes of the game and raced to a 76-25 half-time lead enroute to a 125-51 win against the visiting Jamestown College JV team. It was their 4th win in a row and bumps their record to 9-1 on the season.
Jordan Jasper hit a jumpshot on their first possession and then Seth Amunrud and Justin Asi followed up with 3-pointers. After Brandon Hymes lay-up, the Bucs were already up by double digits with 18:37 left in the first half. Eleven Buccaneers scored in the first half as they shot a blistering 70% from the field and 64% from the 3-point line. Their defense was stifling, forcing 15 turnovers and holding their visitors to 21% from the field. They also doubled them up on the boards 27-13. It was a dominating performance in the opening half.
"We weren't very happy about how we competed in the first half Monday night and so our big emphasis was setting the tone from the start defensively and playing a full forty minutes," explained Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "I think we did that pretty well. It was good to see them really lock in and play with a sense of urgency right off the bat."
The Bucs slowed down a little in the second half, only shooting 47% from the field, but they collected 11 offensive rebounds and 13 second chance points. Their defense stayed pretty consistent, holding the Jimmies to 27% shooting and forcing nine more turnovers. The Bucs outscored them 49-26 in the final twenty minutes. Dawson had a 78-18 advantage on points in the paint and 40-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
All twelve Buccaneers scored at least five points in the game and grabbed at least one rebound. Ade Onaleye led six Bucs in double figures with 17 points on a perfect 8-8 from the field. Justin Asi contributed 16 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Brandon Hymes scored 14 points on 6-9 shooting from the field and 2-3 from 3-point line. Anson Johnson and Kur Maler scored 12 points and Aries Lewis finished with 11 points. Dawson's bench outscored the visitors 66-22. Jackson Simmons was the only double digit scorer for Jamestown with 12 points.
Dawson will return to action against Northwest College on Saturday at 4:00 pm. When they met two weeks ago in Powell, Dawson won in overtime 83-81.
