Dawson’s Seth Amunrud Named All-American
Dawson's Seth Amunrud was named to the NJCAA Division 1 All-American Second Team on Monday. According to DCC records, Amunrud is only the 7th All-American ever in Dawson's almost 70 year history, and the first to make Second Team. There's been five all-americans in the past eight years.
So far this season, Amunrud has been named Mon-Dak Tip-off Tournament MVP, Conference MVP, Region MVP and Region Tournament MVP.
"There's no doubt that Seth was one of the best players in the entire country this year," shared Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "He scored at such a high level and did it really efficiently all year long, but Seth does so much more than just score. He literally impacts the game in every possible way… handling the ball, passing, rebounding, and defending. I can't imagine there's a higher IQ player and a more well-rounded player than Seth at our level. And to top it all off, he is simply a winner. He has won a lot of championships in high school and college, but he also possesses high character and is an excellent student. He is everything you would want in a college athlete."
In 27.1 minutes per game, he averaged 21.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.5 apg, and 2.8 spg while shooting 55.2% from the field, 46.8% from the 3-point line, and 88.7% from the FT line. And he played his best in some of Dawson's biggest games of the year including 28 points in the tip-off tournament championship game, 40 points at Gillette, 28 points vs. Casper, 28 points vs. #4 ranked Salt Lake, 32 in the regional semifinals and 22 in the regional championship. Amunrud led Dawson in scoring, defensive rebounds, assists, assist to turnover ratio, field goal percentage, 3 point percentage, free throw percentage and steals.
In the entire NJCAA Division 1 statistics, he was #16 in the nation in scoring, #16 in free throw percentage, #9 in 3 point percentage and #9 in steals.
In the 8 team Mon-Dak Conference he ranked in the top 5 in 9 statistical categories and in the top 10 in 11 categories:
#1 in steals
#1 in 3 pointers made
#1 in 3 point percentage
#2 in free throw percentage
#3 in scoring
#3 in field goals made
#5 in field goal percentage
#5 in free throws made
#5 in assists
#6 in assists/turnover
#10 in rebounds
Seth Amunrud will go down as the most accomplished basketball player in Dawson history.
