Billings Skyview’s Zakai Owens Signs with Dawson
Zakai Owens has signed a National Letter of Intent with Dawson Community College for next year. Owens is a key part of the Billings Skyview Falcons, helping lead them to a 14-5 record and the #2 seed in the East as they prepare to head to the AA State Tournament in Bozeman next week.
Skyview coach James Bullock shared, "We are very proud of Zakai and the player and young man he has become. We are excited to see where the future takes him and wish him the best of luck in his college career. We can't wait to see what doors basketball opens for him!!"
The 6'7 forward is averaging 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal per game while shooting 50% from two-point range and 70% from the free throw line this season.
"Zakai has a chance to really grow as a basketball player," explained Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "He has size and length, a good shooting touch, and a natural passing ability that is rare. If he can add some strength to his frame, it will really lift his game to new heights. I think he has the right work ethic and mentality to keep developing. That's what Junior College is about… opportunity, development and proving you can play at this level."
As a junior, Owens helped Skyview to a 10-8 record and was named All-Conference Honorable Mention.
"I chose Dawson because I feel as if it is the right fit for me and the community is full of people who support, not just the team, but Glendive as a whole," shared Owens. "Coach Peterson is a great coach and he is someone who can prepare me for the next level. I'm excited to get started on a new chapter. Go Bucs!"
