Lady Bucs Battle a Tough Weekend vs North Dakota Science
In the four game set, DCC went 0-4 versus the Wildcats. Three out of the four games were a hard fought battle for the Lady Bucs. Saturday's scores were 8-6 and 9-0 and Sunday's scores were 5-4 and 9-4.
"Science is always a tough team to play," head softball coach Casey-May Huff stated, "they are coached well, they have a deep pitching staff, and they don't make many mistakes. Not to mention, they are ranked 2nd in the nation at the D3 level."
In three of the four games, DCC would score first, but couldn't seem to keep the lead once the games reached the fourth or fifth innings. Samantha Maerz went 4 for 8 this weekend with an average of .667, 4 hits, 1 homerun, 1 SAC bunt, and 4 RBI's. Stocktyn Stevenson went 6 for 14 at the plate with a .462 batting average, 6 hits, 1 double, 2 RBI's, and 3 runs scored. Ashley Hammers was not far behind with 5 hits. Cate Underwood, Allie Anderson, and Nekysa Wright all posted 3 hits on the weekend and a combined total of 5 runs scored.
As a pitching staff, the overall ERA was 4.9. Anderson posted 11 strikeouts, Shelby Blankenship had 3 and Underwood had 1.
"We have faced a lot of adversity lately, but that adversity has come from playing some of the top teams in the nation," Huff said, "as coaches we created a tough schedule early on to help us grow and feel the pressure so we could learn how to respond to the pressure when it really counts. I am proud of how the girls have grown over these two weeks and I do believe if we stick together and stay on the grind, we will rise together at the right time."
The Lady Bucs are back in action this Friday March 28th in Jamestown and then at home this Saturday March 29th vs the University of Regina at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
