DCC Women’s Basketball Topples Williston State

After a devastating loss in their conference home opener, Dawson Community College regained a winning edge on the road a few days later and returned back home to defeat Williston State College 88-59.

DCC came out on fire in the first half leading the Lady Tetons 43-19.  Dawson would keep that fire lit going into the second half gaining their largest lead by 36 points with the score of 79-43.  However, Williston would try and keep it close and gain some momentum by chipping away and cutting their deficit in the second half.  The Lady Tetons outscored DCC from the bench 47-25, but the Lady Bucs wouldn’t allow them to get close enough as they converted 32 points from Williston’s 25 turnovers.  The Lady Bucs shot good percentages, going 49% from the field, 37% from the beyond the arc and 81% from the free throw line.

Alexius Foster led the game with 23 points, while having 7 rebounds and 4 steals.  She shot a perfect 100% from the free throw line, making 8-8.  Kitawna Little Light scored 14 points, with 2 assists and 3 steals.  Sarah Miranda scored 12 points, had 5 rebounds and 3 steals as well.  Ejanae Coopwood had 10 points, pulled down 7 rebounds, and collected 3 steals.  The DCC bench contributed 27 points and 10 rebounds.

Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. commented, “It’s good to see that we can keep our composure and play game to game, and bounce back from losses and focus on winning.  It was pleasing to see what our entire team can do.  When our reserves contribute to points and rebounds, games lean in our favor most of the time.  It’s crucial that all our players 1-13 can contribute when it comes to critical conference play with seeding factors involved for post season play.”

The Lady Bucs are 3-2 in conference and in a 3-way tie for third place.  They are 13-8 overall.  Dawson will now face undefeated and nationally ranked Miles Community College Monday, January 28 at 5:30 pm.
