DCC Women’s Basketball Promotes Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Game

For the last 4 seasons, the DCC Women’s Basketball team has participated in the Play 4Kay National Breast Cancer Awareness and Research campaign promoted by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.  In the fifth annual event, Dawson will promote the campaign in its game vs. Dakota College at Bottineau on Monday, February 18 at 5:30 pm.  The Lady Buccaneers have raised over $5,000 dollars under the helm of Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr, “I’m always thrilled to be a part of a campaign that truly supports the effort to beat cancer.  This will be my 13th year actively involved, and Dawson Community College is proud to join all divisions of women’s basketball across the country to raise awareness and research.”

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to the fight against all cancer affecting women. Our mission is to raise money for scientific research for the development of life-enhancing drugs and clinical studies; assist the underserved; and unify people for a common cause.

In partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research and its Scientific Advisory Board, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund Class A Board of Directors award grants through a highly competitive process.

Each year, The V Foundation invites the 60+ NCI (National Cancer Institute)-designated cancer facilities to nominate their researchers for funding consideration. Additionally, prominent cancer centers across the country are invited to apply for funding. The Scientific Advisory Board reviews proposals and makes all funding recommendations. Each funded researcher is required to provide The V Foundation and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund with a project status report by Dec. 31 of the first year. Each year, both organizations meet with scientists to better understand the challenges and progress occurring in this field.

Since the Fund’s inception, $7.53 million has been granted for scientific research focused on women’s cancers thanks to the support of our donors. (Kay Yow Cancer Fund)

With the help of the students and staff of DCC, community members, and businesses, this event should be another great one.  Many local businesses in the Glendive community and campus will once again donate plenty of prizes for the raffle tickets being sold by each Lady Buc.  Raffle prizes will also be sold during both women’s and men’s basketball games, and prizes will be awarded continuously throughout the night.  The players and staff will wear pink during the games.  Plan on seeing Coach Romeo wear his traditional pink shirt and pink shoelaces along with pink fingernails and a pink earring.  He even had eyeliner on last season.

Game time is set for 5:30 pm on Monday, February 18.  Fans wearing lots of pink are admitted free.  All proceeds from purchased tickets will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
