Winning their second game in a row, the Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball team defeated Dakota College at Bottineau 74-67 at home.  It was not only a victory for the Lady Buccaneers, but also a huge success promoting their 5th annual Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness and fundraiser.

DCC started off slow edging Dakota 13-12 in the first quarter.  Dawson went into halftime with an 8-point lead, 41-33.  The Lady Bucs led by as many 16 points in the second half, but the Lady Jacks made several 3 pointers to keep them in the game.  Dakota made 50% of their 3 pointers, going 8 for 16.  However, Dawson had more possessions by outrebounding their opponent 40-24, collecting 14 steals and causing 23 turnovers.  The Lady Bucs dominated in 2nd chance points, outscoring Dakota 20-5.

Ejanae Coopwood led the game with 20 points and 11 rebounds, along with 4 steals and 3 assists.  Sarah Miranda also had a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while having 2 assists.

Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. commented on the pinkish evening, “It was good to see lots of support from the community and campus involved in our Play 4Kay event.  It was even more special to collect another victory all the while trying to raise funds for a very caring cause.  We were glad to play all of our players who contributed to a victory.  We hope to see the same contributions as the regular season comes to an end, and the post season tournament begins.”

The Lady Bucs travel on the road to Badlands rival Miles Community College, who are currently undefeated on the season.  They will play on Thursday, February 21st at 5:30 pm.
