DCC’s Haley Olson Awarded Montana Athletes in Service
Sophomore women’s basketball student-athlete Haley Olson of Dawson Community College was recently awarded the 2020 Montana Athletes in Service Award by Montana Campus Contact.
Annually, this award honors students from different college campuses throughout the state of Montana. Haley was one of eleven honorees to accept this outstanding achievement. Traditionally, all honorees are personally recognized by the governor of Montana and other college Presidents during halftime on the field of the Brawl of the Wild football game between MSU and U of M. However, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the awards ceremony took place virtually with all recipients, college representatives, and the committee. Each school president and chancellor was able to share a brief summary of their own recipient’s accomplishments. There was also an opportunity for each honoree to express a simple thank you.
DCC head basketball coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. said, “I am extremely happy for Haley. She is really an above and beyond type of individual. Dawson truly commends her for this outstanding award as she is well-deserving of it.”
Athletic Director Joe Peterson stated, “Haley Olson is an exceptional student athlete who gets it done in the classroom, on the court and in the community. She is always ready to help whoever needs it whenever they need it; and she always does it with a smile on her face and joy in her heart! There is no one more deserving of this award!”
Dawson Community College President Scott Mickelsen gave his praise as well, “Haley is not only an outstanding student-athlete but also an outstanding person. She always has a smile and will go the extra mile. We are all better for knowing Haley!!”
