Dawson Community College Athletics—Annual Report

2020-2021 Overview

- 176 student-athletes (54 more than last year) competed in DCC's nine athletic programs including:

- 12 from Dawson County

- 64 from Montana

- 78 from other states

- 22 International

- Our student-athletes represented 30 states and 6 countries

Academic Highlights

- 38 Student-athletes graduated from DCC in May

- 47 Student-athletes on President's Honor List

- 67 Student-athletes selected on Academic All-Conference Team (13 more than last year)

- Women's Basketball had the best overall GPA (3.50)

- 6 of 9 sports earned over a 3.0 team GPA

- 3 sports increased their team GPA from last year to this year (Women's Basketball, Cross-Country/Track and Baseball)

- The overall Athletic Department GPA was 3.02

Athletic Highlights

- 2 All-Americans

- 1 Region Tournament MVP

- 11 All-Region players

- 13 All-Conference players

- 27 student-athletes received scholarships to 4-year colleges

- 5 teams made Nationals appearances (Cross Country, Men's Basketball, Rodeo, and Esports)

Community Highlights

- Student-athletes volunteered more than 3500 hours of community service. Projects included trash clean-up, mentoring, helping load trucks at the Attic, local schools, refereeing charity games, set up/clean up, serving at community events, yardwork, community beautification, helping people move, coaching youth and school sports, and many other activities;

- Raised over $138,000 through fundraising activities;

- Hosted 157 area boys and girls at a summer basketball camp;

- Hosted a high school basketball tournament on campus for 48 teams;

- Over 12,000 fans attended sporting events at DCC this year;

- Approximately 150 community members use the walking track, weight and cardio facilities at the Toepke Center each week and around 1,000 have used these facilities at some point throughout the year.

 

 

Cross-Country/Track Highlights—NJCAA (3rd Season):

- Kayla Parisien, Zach Austin and Jonah DuCharme qualified for NJCAA DII Cross-Country Nationals

- Kayla Parisien was the 1st female All American in program history (13th place at Nationals)

- 2 athletes finished the Indoor Track Season in the Top 25 in the nation in the NJCAA

- 5 athletes finished the Outdoor Track Season in the Top 50 in the Nation in the NJCAA

- 1 athlete finished the Outdoor Track Season in the Top 25 in the Nation in the NJCAA

 - Every athlete increased their personal best throughout the season

- 15 student-athletes participated; 2 from Canada, 3 from Idaho, 1 from South Dakota, 1 from North Dakota,  8 from Montana

- 1st year competing as a full track team (distance, sprints, field events) since the program was reinstated in 2018

- Volunteered over 272 Community Service hours

- Increased team GPA by 0.63 from last year

- Highest Team GPA since program was reinstated (3.11)

- 8 Players awarded NJCAA All-Academic Team (2 First Team, 1 Second Team, 5 Third Team)

- 6 players were on the President's Honor List for the year

- 3 athletes graduated with two-year degrees

- 2 athletes received scholarships to a 4-year university

 

Rodeo Highlights- NIRA Big Sky Region (51st season)

- Chanse Switzer finished 3rd in the Bull Riding and qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo

- Jud Colliness finished 10th in the Bull Riding  

- Hosted the Bucs, Boots and Buckles Banquet fundraiser

- Hosted the DCC NIRA College Regional Rodeo 

- Volunteered over 121 Community Service hours 

- Team GPA was 3.2

- 3 players were on the President's Honor List for the year

- 5 student athletes graduated with two-year degrees

 

 

Volleyball Highlights—NJCAA Division II (4th season):

- Finished 3rd in the Mon-Dak Conference regular season

- Shelby Fronk and Haydin Henschel were named to the All-Region XIII Team

- Shelby Fronk and Haydin Henschel were named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference Team

- Hosted the District 2C High School Volleyball Tournament

- Volunteered over 500 Community Service hours

-  2 players awarded NJCAA All-Academic Team (2 Second Team)

- 5 players were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference

-  2 players were on the President's Honor List for the year

 

 

 

 

 

Women's Basketball Highlights- NJCAA (51st season)

- Reached the Region XIII Championship Game (Region Runners-up)

- Finished 2nd in the Mon-Dak Conference regular season

- 6th in the nation in steals per game

- 18th in the nation in most points

- Top 20 in the nation in offensive rebounding

- Led Conference in steals per game

- Led Conference in offensive rebounding

- 2nd in Conference with blocks per game

- 2nd in Conference with points per game

- Ashya Klopfenstein NJCAA Top 20 in steals

- Ashya Klopfenstein led the conference in blocks and steals, #3 rebounds, #3 field goal %, #5 in defensive and offensive rebounds

- Tamiya Francis tied school record with 10 steals in a game, 3rd with most points in a game (34)

- Ashya Klopfenstein 1st Team All-Conference, NJCAA All-Region XIII, World Exposure Juco Report Honorable Mention All-American and WBCA Top 10 All-American

- Tamiya Francis First Team All-Conference, NJCAA All-Region XIII, World Exposure Scout Report Honorable Mention All-American, WBCA Honorable Mention All-American

- Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. Presenter WBCA Aspire Coaches Convention

- 3rd Year in a Row as National Play 4Kay 1st Place fundraising winners

- Haley Olson and Megan Lindbo Montana Campus Contact Recipient Honorees

- Volunteered over 421 Community Service hours, which included 20 projects

- 6th year in a row to have over a 3.0 team GPA

- 2 players with a 4.0 GPA

- WBCA #7 National Ranking Team GPA

- 5th year in a row to be nationally ranked for team GPA

- 8 Players awarded NJCAA All-Academic Team (2 First Team, 1 Second Team, 5 Third Team)

- 10 players were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference

- 10 players were on the President's Honor List

- 5 student athletes graduated with two-year degrees

- 3 players received scholarships to 4-year universities

 

Men's Basketball Highlights—NJCAA Division I (63rd Season):

- Qualified for the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas (1st time ever)

-  North Central District Champions (1st time ever)

- Region XIII Tournament Champions (back to back)

-  Hosted the Region XIII Tournament

- Mon-Dak Conference Champions (back to back)

- Won 20 games for the fourth year in a row

- 23-3 record on the year

-  19-2 in Conference play

-  9th in the nation in scoring (top 10 for 2 straight years)

-  10th in the nation steals (top 15 for 2 straight years)

- 14th in the nation in opponents' field goal percentage

-  21st in the nation in total rebounds (top 25 for 2 straight years)

- Charles Lampten led the conference in blocks, offensive rebounds, and total rebounds,

- Charles Lampten was an NJCAA All-American (4th in program history)

-  Charles Lampten and Mike Jok were named to the All-Region XIII Team

- Charles Lampten and Mike Jok were 1st team Mon-Dak All-Conference

-  Jajuan Tot was 2nd team All-Conference

- Reggie Martin was named Region XIII Tournament Most Valuable Player

- Coach Joe Peterson was named North Central District Coach of the Year

- Coach Joe Peterson was named Region XIII Coach of the Year

- Coach Joe Peterson was named Mon-Dak Conference Coach of the Year

-  Volunteered over 810 Community Service hours

-  Team GPA of 3.02 (3.16 for active roster)

-  Top 14 in the country for Team GPA (out of 450+ teams)

Softball Highlights—NJCAA Division II (24th Season):

- Mon-Dak Conference Champions

- Qualified for the Region XIII Tournament

- 21-1 in the Conference

- Shelby Martin led the conference in ERA (2.61)

- Maycen O'Neal was 2nd in conference in RBIs (50) and 4th in batting average

- Ashlynne Copinga led the conference in steals (36)

- Shelby Martin, Maycen O'Neal and Riley Arnold were named to the All-Region XIII Team

- Shelby Martin, Riley Arnold, and Deven Creech were named to the Mon-Dak All-Conference Team

- Coach Jim LeProwse was the Mon-Dak Conference Coach of the Year

- Team GPA of 3.3

- 17 players were named NJCAA Academic All-Americans

- 17 players were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference

- 9 players were on the President's Honor List for the year

- 8 players graduated with two-year degrees

 Baseball Highlights-NJCAA Division II (24th season) 

- Finished regular season with a winning record (28-23) and was 14-5 at home

- 15-8 Mon-Dak Conference record (most Mon-Dak wins in school history) 

- Clinched a regional appearance by finishing in 3rd place in the Mon-Dak tournament

- 30th in the nation in with a .314 team batting average

- 6th in the nation in triples 

- Seth Lucero & Dawson Cortese were named to the All-Region XIII Team

- Seth Lucero, Dawson Cortese, Brett Curran & Francisco Rosario were named Mon-Dak All-Conference team

- Volunteered over 1,200 community service hours for the year 

- 3.01 team GPA in the spring semester (2.98 overall for both semesters) with a 54-man roster -- - 26 players were named Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference

- 9 players were on the President's Honor List for the year

- 14 players graduated with two-year degrees

- 16 players received scholarships to four-year universities

 

Esports—NJCAAe (1st Season):

- 13 student-athletes participated during the initial year

- Call of Duty Cold War Team placed 5th in the Nation

- Call of Duty Modern Warfare Team placed 4th overall in the Nation

- Call of Duty Cold War Team and Call of Duty Modern Warfare Teams both finished with an 8-1 record, entering playoffs with a 1st place seed within their division

- Hosted 1st Community Game Con in Glendive

- MidRivers contributed equipment and financial support in order to launch Esports Lab

- Program purchased equipment to run a Varsity and JV Esports team

- 3 players were on the President's Honor List for the year

- 1 athlete graduated with a two-year degree
