Dawson Volleyball Starts 2024 Season

The Lady Bucs traveled to Helena Montana to open up their season on August 24 where they played Carroll JV and Miles Community College. Their first game against Carroll JV the Bucs fell short in three sets with scores of 16-25, 16-25, and 15-25. The team finished with 21 kills. The leaders for the game were Kendall Scheffelmear and Abbe Case with five kills apiece. Aspen Baird led the team in assists with 17 of the 19 assists and chipped in 3 aces of the teams 4. The team finished with 46 digs. Ava Fedorick led the team in digs with 11 followed closely by Baird with 10. Scheffelmear finished with 3 out of 6 of
the teams blocks.
Next up the Bucs took on the Pioneers of Miles Community College and struggled to get going. Losing in three with scores of 16-25, 16-25 and 16-25. The team finished with 18 kills. Destiny Thompson led the team in kills with 5. Baird led the team with assists again, finishing with 15 of the teams 16. Zandora Longtree had the teams only ace. Fedorick led the team in digs with 13 of the teams 36 while Case led the team in blocks with 1.5 of the teams 5.
After their trip to Helena, the team traveled to Miles City on August 27, for their first conference game of the season. While the Bucs had a much better showing, they still fell short in three sets to the Pioneers with scores of 27-25, 28-30, and 11-25. The team finished with 36 kills. The leaders for the game were
Scheffelmear and Thompson with 8 kills each followed by Nikki Roberts and Fedorick with 7 each. Baird led the team in assists again with 30 of the 33 while Longtree had a good serving night adding in 2 aces of the teams 4. Gracie Kuntz led the team in digs with 7 of the teams 33. The Bucs had a big blocking
night Fedorick finished with 2.5 followed by Roberts with 2 and Scheffelmear with 1.5. The team had a total of 8 blocks.
The next day the Lady Bucs had their first home games the next on August 28 where they held a triangular with Rocky JV and Dickinson JV. Their first game they faced off against Rocky JV and fell short again in four sets with scores of 25-27, 18-25, 26-24, and 17-25. The team finished with 48 kills. Leading
the team was Thompson with 12, followed by Scheffelmear with 11 and Roberts with 10. Baird led the team with 33 of the teams 34 assists. The team tallied up 6 aces with Kuntz and Baird having 2 each. The team finished with 56 digs Kuntz led the team with 14 and Baird followed with 10. The team had another good blocking game finishing with 7 blocks. Scheffelmear led the team again with 3.5.
The second game of the day was Dawson taking on Dickinson JV the Bucs lost in three with scores of 21-25, 15-25, and 22-25. The team finished with 27 kills and leading the way was Thompson and Scheffelmear with 7 a piece. Baird finished with 21 of the 27 assists. The team had 4 aces with four Bucs having 1 each. The team had 40 digs, Kuntz and Thompson had 8 each and Haleigh Henschel finished with 7. The team had 2 blocks with Roberts leading the team with 1.
Coach Dina Fritz comments about her teams start, "We are a young team that is learning how to compete; we have come out very strong against teams and just need to learn how to finish sets. I have all the faith in the world that once they break through that they will be able to compete with any team
in the league."
The Bucs are back on the road in Gillette Wyoming for a tournament August 30-31 where they will be playing Gillette College, Colorado Northwestern, Northwest College and Western Wyoming. Next Week on September 2 they are back home with another conference game against Lake Region State College and Wednesday
against North Dakota State College of Science, both games start at 6pm.
