Dawson Lady Bucs Split On Second Day

The Lady Bucs volleyball split the second day of the Northwest tournament. First, losing to Carroll JV with scores of 15-25, 22-25, and 18-25. Then winning a five set thriller against Rocky JV with scores of 17-25, 17-25, 25-19, 25-17, and 15-12.

The first game of the day was against Carroll JV and the Lady Bucs had a slow start in the match but picked it up towards the end. It just was not enough as the Saints from Carroll pulled out the three set sweep.

Leading the way for kills was Scarlette Schwindt with 10 and Brittany Kaufman with 8. Schwindt also had 1 ace, 1 block, and 22 digs in the contest. Reece Fleming was the assist leader again with 22. Lauren Rodacker led the way in the back row with 28 digs, while Zandora Longtree tallied the other ace of the game for the Bucs. Alaina Woods and Abi Krantz were a brick wall at the net both with 1.5 digs apiece.

The second game of the day was an exciting five set victory over the Battling Bears. After dropping the first two sets, the Lady Bucs came back and won the next three for the reverse sweep of the game.

Schwindt, once again led the team in kills with 20 followed closely behind by Kaufman with 18. Schwindt pulled off the double-double with 22 digs while Kaufman led the way in aces tallying 3 for the match. Fleming had a great all-around game finishing with 40 assists, 11 digs and 3.5 blocks. Rodacker was the leader of the back row with 38 digs.

Coach Dina Fritz says, "We had two very good matches today, the first match we started off very slow and made a lot of mistakes and had some unforced errors. I was happy to see the team respond after being down two sets to zero in the game against Rocky and be mentally strong to come back and win. That takes a lot of effort and I think we grew again as a team today. It is all about getting better each day and I think we are doing that."

The Lady Bucs have their last game of the weekend Saturday at 11 AM as they face the Wyoming All-Stars. Then they are on the road to open up conference next Tuesday August 29 against Lake Region State College.
