Bucs Indoor Track Debut

Dawson Community Colleges track team made their indoor track debut this weekend at the Bison Open in Fargo, ND. The Bucs raced against talented athletes in all their races and stayed competitive. Coach Alex Chase said, We set great starting points this weekend that we can take and improve on as we look to qualify runners for the NJCAA Outdoor Track Nationals in May.”

Kayla Parisien, a standout cross country runner for the Buccaneers, placed first and second in her heats. Kayla ran the 600 meter race Friday night and won her heat with a time of 1:48.70. On Saturday during her 800 meter race, she was edged out in the last fifty meters to place second in her heat with a time of 2:33.65.

On the mens side, the Buccaneers ran in the 600 meter race on Friday night, where Zach Austin and Austin Roberts raced against a talented field of runners. Both ran well, with Zach Austin clocking a time of 1:33.96. On Saturday, Zach Austin raced the mile with a time of 4:50.03 and placed sixth in his heat, beating ten other runners. Austin Roberts ran in the 400 meter race and placed 7th in his heat. Peter John Unteresher placed 5th in his first ever 5000 meter race on Saturday.

The Buccaneers will be racing again in two weeks on February 22nd at the Stinger Open in Spearfish, SD where they will round out their short indoor season. They will then gear up to race in outdoor track, beginning with a meet on March 21st at the Battlin’ Bear Open in Laurel, MT.
