Lady Bucs Fall Short in Wyoming

The Lady Bucs traveled to Riverton, Wyoming to take on McCook College from Nebraska and the tournament host Central Wyoming College. Both games were nail-biters, but the short-handed Bucs fell in both contests.

In the game vs McCook, the Lady Bucs looked sluggish which led to a slow start. The Lady Bucks found themselves down by 22 points midway through the third quarter. The Lady Bucs vaunted full court pressure stymied McCook and pulled within two points with 36 seconds left in the quarter. Two costly mistakes led to easy baskets and they took a six-point lead into the final quarter. The Lady Bucs had no gas left in the tank and surrendered 30 fourth quarter points in the defeat.

In the second game versus Central Wyoming College, the Lady Bucs only had seven players available. The Lady Bucs jumped out early scoring 32 first quarter points, a season high. In the third quarter the Lady Bucs were plagued by foul trouble. With 2:13 left in the game the Lady Bucs were down to only four players. The girls played extremely hard, and found themselves with an opportunity to win the game in regulation. Denica Delaney missed a tough shot in the lane and the game went into overtime. The Lady Bucs continued to battle. The game remained tied. Until 1:00 minute left Central Wyoming hit consecutive three-pointers while the Lady Bucs couldn't cash in on free throw opportunities, shooting 2 of 6 from the free throw line down the final stretch. Central converted on their late free throw opportunities winning by a final score of 99-93. The Lady Bucs placed five players in double figures led by Zoe Skeens(23), Eirini Chatzinikoli(21), Evelyn Old Coyote(17), Kylee Old Elk(16), and Denica Delaney(12).

After the game Coach Weber praised his team's effort. "The Ladies played great tonight, battling foul trouble and finishing playing 4 versus 5 for the final 7:00 of the game. There is no quit in our team. I'm extremely optimistic about our team after seeing players step up when called upon. This was a great growth opportunity that will only help us as we continue through our season. Once we get some key contributors back from injury we will be really hard to beat."
