DCC Cross Country Hosts First Home Meet in Over 50 Years

The Buccaneers hosted their first home cross country meet since the program was reinstated in 2017. It consisted of a small duel against Rocky Mountain College. The race took place at the Cottonwood Country Club where the women raced a 5k and men raced an 8k.

On the women’s side, returner Emberlyn Hoffman-Gaschk got her legs moving and started out the season with a sixth place finish overall. Rocky’s women finished with a perfect team score, and Sydney Little Light won the race with a time of 18:49.

The returners on the men’s team for the Bucs raced well, with Connor Chase finishing 4th and Garet Hoke 5th. All four returners that raced for DCC ran faster than last year at this time. Rocky’s men pushed the pace throughout the race with Corbyn Svec from Rocky winning the men’s race with a time of 27:32.

“I first want to thank everyone that helped us pull off this first meet. It was a lot of work, and we couldn’t have hosted this home meet without all the support we receive from our school and our community,” said Coach Alex Chase Wolff.

Coach Chase continued with, “I am really excited about where our season is starting and looking forward to things as we continue to get better. We had a couple runners that had to sit this one out due to some nagging injuries, but I am hopeful they will be ready for future meets, especially as we look towards our goal of Nationals in November.”

The Buccaneers next meet is on September 23rd in Dickinson, ND. They will race at the Heart River Golf Course with the women’s race beginning at 11:00am and men following with their race starting at 11:40am.
