Buccaneers Start Strong for Outdoor Track Season

The Buccaneer track and field team competed in their first outdoor track meet of the season in Billings, MT at the MSUB/Rocky Icebreaker Open.

In sprints, Jayden Fraser made a statement with a first place finish in the 100 meter dash with Dallin Garner placing fifth in the same race. In the 110 meter high hurdles, Dawson had a third place finish, Robby Gress, and a fourth place finish, Sawyer Haas. Sawyer continued in the 400 meter hurdles to place second.

The distance team showed up in the 5000 meter with a sixth place, Connor Chase, and seventh place, Garet Hoke. Moving forward to the mid distance race of the 800 meter, Kames Springer finished in eighth place.

Field events had a number of scoring places in throws, jumps, and pole vault. Benton Carlspon had a fifth place finish in javelin. Chase Keating had a fourth place in triple jump which followed a fifth place in long jump. Dallin Garner placed seventh in pole vault.

Coach Alex Chase Wolff commented, “I am excited where things have started. We have some goals for the season and are looking forward to the next couple meets to hopefully qualify for nationals in a few events. We are just getting started and I am excited to see the team continue to improve!”

The Buccaneers compete again this weekend at the Yellow Jacket Spring Open at Lyle Hare Stadium in Spearfish, SD. Field events begin at noon and running events begin at 1:30pm on Saturday, March 26th.
