6'4 guard Brandon Hymes will be playing for the Dawson Community College Buccaneers next year. Hymes played for Chapin High School in El Paso during his high school career. Legendary Chapin Coach Rodney Lewis commented, "Brandon Hymes is a gem! He's a winner with a champion's mentality on and off the court. He will help Dawson basketball continue their success."

Hymes  led the 5A school to a Sweet 16 finish at state his sophomore year and two straight Elite 8 finishes the past two seasons.. As a junior he was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year in the district and the city. As a senior, he was named District 1 MVP.

"Brandon is a winner," shared Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "He will play whatever position, guard any player on the floor, and do whatever it takes to help his team be successful. He loves to dive on the floor, take a charge and inspire his teammates. His basketball IQ is really high. He has a great feel for the game and really good athleticism. I'm thankful that Brandon and Coach Lewis trusted us with his development. Dawson will be a great springboard for his future."

Hymes averaged 13.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 3.2 steals per game while shooting 48% from the field, 36% from 3 and 69% from the free throw line. Chapin was 34-5 on the year and was ranked #1 in the city of El Paso all year and #4 in the state since December 6th. In his 3 seasons on varsity, Chapin never lost to a team from the city of El Paso.

Hymes talked about his decision, "I chose Dawson because it felt like a second home. The coaching staff is great, the community shows a lot of love, the atmosphere at the games are intense and that's what brings my love for the game."

During his senior year, Hymes was selected All-Region and All-State. He was a two time All Region Tournament team performer. He also made the all tournament team at the Caprock Tournament and Mansfield Spring Creek BBQ Classic. Hymes scored over 1,000 points in his high school career.
