Dawson Dominates Northwest for 6th Straight

The Dawson Bucs stayed undefeated on the season by handling the Northwest College Trappers at home Tuesday night 91-67. Dawson built up a 33 point lead halfway through the second half and sailed to another win. They didn't shoot it particularly well from 3 point range (7-30), but they made 20 free throws, forced 18 turnovers and dominated the boards 51-39.

"I liked the way we played tonight," shared Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "I thought we played really hard, came up with a lot of deflections and loose balls, and our pressure really bothered them all night. Rony really made a huge impact on the game by rebounding and blocking shots, even though he only took one shot himself."

The Bucs took the lead on the first possession of the game on a steal and bucket inside by Justin Asi, and they never looked back from there. They only shot 40% from the field and 20% from the 3-point line, but they managed to get ten more shots than the Trappers in the opening twenty minutes thanks to ten forced turnovers and eleven offensive rebounds. Dawson scored ten points off those turnovers and thirteen points off of offensive rebounds. Seven buccaneers scored at least four points in the first half in a balanced effort.

After intermission, Asi came up with two more steals and Dawson bolstered their lead right away, outscoring NWC by 21 points in the next ten minutes to put the game away. Dawson's 3-point shooting really never improved, but it didn't matter in the end as they made 13-18 from the free throw line and continued to dominate in the paint (46-32 for the game).

Asi led the way with 19 points on 8-10 shooting from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line. Guards Ty Buckmon and Seth Amunrud contributed 17 points each. Roniel Oguekwe collected 10 rebounds and blocked 4 shots in the game.

The Trappers were led by Milton Rodriguez Santana with 19 points. Dawson is now 6-0 on the season and will return after Thanksgiving for four important conference games starting with a home date with Miles Community College on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
