Feb 28, 2024

Game one:

Dawson Baseball lost to Northeastern Junior College 19-9 on Saturday. The Bucs jumped out to an early 5 run lead but could not hold it. The Bucs did collect 8 hits in the contest. They were led by Juan Salaverria and Nick Proffitt who each had two hits in the contest. Keenan Hjemstad led the offense with 3 RBI in the game. Hjermstad and Proffitt each hit a homerun for the Buccaneers.

Game Two:

NJC defeats DCC 24-2. Damian Rodriguez led the game off with a homerun to start the contest but was one of the only bright spots for the Bucs in the lopsided affair. Rodriguez, Jadyn Roberts, and Mac Melvin each collected a hit for the Buccaneers.

Game Three:

DCC gets behind early and fails to keep pace with NJC in a 10-3 loss. Jadyn Roberts took the first pitch of the game and deposited over the left field wall to get the Bucs a fast start out of the gate. Roberts and Wesley Taveras each had two hits in the game to lead the buccaneer offense. Taveras led the way with 2 RBI while Rodriguez chipped in 2 stolen bases.

Game Four:

DCC comes up short against NJC in an offensive shootout 15-12. The Bucs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first but then fell behind in the middle innings. Until the top of the 5th when the Bucs offense flipped the game on its head with a 6 run inning, capped off by a grand slam homerun by Ethan Reisdorfer to give DCC a 10-9 lead. Unfortunately, the bullpen could not maintain the lead for the Buccaneers in the late innings. The offense collected 9 hits in the game and were led by Reisdorfer, who collected 3 hits and 5 RBI for the team. Salaverria and Hjermstad also had multiple hit games as well.

Coach Pollock stated, "We certainly did not have the weekend we hoped for. Baseball is strange in the fact that teams start their seasons at different times as we kicked our season off, NJC was on game #15 of the year. NJC played much cleaner, was more polished, and efficient than we were all weekend. We have a lot of areas to improve in, if we want to become the team that I believe we can be. We are a very young team, and I saw a lot of positive things to build off as well. We played 17 true freshmen over the weekend, and 80 percent of the innings pitched over the weekend were by freshmen pitchers. If this bunch can continue to grow together they will look much different throughout the year as they gain experience."
