DCC Baseball Buccaneers Fall 2021 Recap

The fall season has officially come to a close for the Buccaneers in what was an impressive start to the 2021-2022 baseball season. The Buccaneers went 8-2-1 including a statement win against NCAA D2 powerhouse MSUB. The Buccaneers finished up their fall with the annual fall World Series in which team Brett Curran and Dylan Batista defeated team Korey Bacak and Mila Burger in dominating fashion, sweeping the series 2-0. The Buccaneers saw success all fall long and finished the fall season strong, getting better each week as the team grew together.

In the 11 games played, the team posted good numbers on both sides of the ball. Offensively in 329 at bats the team posted a .261 batting average while slugging .410 with 86 hits, 12 doubles, 8 home runs, 1 grand slam, 68 RBI’s, 79 total runs and an 87.18 stolen base percentage. Leading the ship in hitting was Rolando Rodriguez (.417 BA, 2HR, 1 Grand Slam, 9 RBI’s, and 66.67 SB%), Nate Burdette (.385 BA, 1 three run HR, and 15 RBI’s), Gregory Berroa (.323 Slugging %, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 4 RBI’s, and 9 SB), David De La Cruz (.333 BA, 2 doubles, 1 HR, and 8 RBI’s), Nolan Beugling (.318 BA, 1 double, 3 RBI’s, and 5 stolen bases), Ty Yurkovich (.304 BA, 3 HR, 9 RBI’s, and 4 stolen bases), and Nathan Scragg (.381 BA, 3 doubles, 9 runs, and 3 stolen bases.

On the mound, the Buccaneers posted 87 IP, with only 44 ER, while striking out 109 batters. The Buccaneers had a 4.50 team ERA while batters batted only .228 against the Bucs. Leading the ship on the mound was Frederick Romano (4.2 IP, 9 K’s, and 1ER), Luis Ortega (8 IP, 4ER, and 14 K’s), Matthew Benton (10.2 IP, 6 ER, and 12 K’s), Ethan Root (5.1 IP, 0 ER, and 12 K’s), Jan Cruz (6.2 IP, 2 ER, and 7 K’s), Tyler Charette (6.0I P, 0 ER, and 7 K’s), Anthony Ramos (4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, and 100% save rate), and Kevin Lopez (4.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 K’s, and 100% save rate).

Defensively, the Bucs held their own with a .944 fielding percentage with 356 total chances, while turning 8 double plays. The Buccaneers now turn their focus to player development this winter while preparing for the spring, where they will dock their ship in Southern Idaho, and take on the Golden Eagles February 18th.
