Campus Contact DCC Athlete In Service Winner 2022

Campus Contact DCC Athlete In Service Winner 2022

Because of his leadership, commitment and service, Connor Chase has been selected as Dawson Community College's recipient of the Montana Athletes in Service Award through Campus Compact Montana. Connor is a sophomore on the Cross Country and Track Teams and comes from Billings, MT.

He will represent DCC at a ceremony that will take place on November 19th at the Brawl of the Wild football game at Montana State University in Bozeman.

Connor goes above and beyond and is always willing to step in and do whatever anyone asks whether it's his own coach, another coach, a teacher, the front office, admissions, or anyone else on campus. He is the first one to volunteer when something needs to be done. He has served with concessions anytime anyone needs it, he mentors a middle school student and also makes sure his teammates without rides get there as well so they can mentor. He has helped people who are moving into the community, served at the Foundation fundraiser, set up for home events, helping students make up assignments or labs in science and math classes, helping in Makoshika State Park with trail upkeep, as well as mowing lawns, house sitting when people need it.  He also has major volunteer positions back home in Billings with the Youth Group at his church, helping with 2 different weekend retreats for middle school and high school students; making sandwiches for the homeless and helping with both middle school and freshman basketball practices at Castle Rock Middle School and Skyview High School. Last year he did over 120 hours of community service on campus alone; not including service done outside of DCC).

Connor is a natural leader who not only loves to serve, but also helps to get others to serve as well. Best of all, he always does it with a smile on his face and a positive attitude.

The Montana Athletes in Service Award has three specific goals:

1)      Honor civically engaged student-athletes from MTCC campuses for their commitment and engagement in community service;

2)      Raise awareness for civic engagement programs at MTCC member campuses.

3)      Highlight student-athletes as role models to encourage more civic engagement activities throughout Montana

For 30 years, Montana Campus Compact and its affiliate campuses has supported students, faculty and communities across Montana with programs that encourage and recognize community service. Montana Campus Compact and the State of Montana are proud to honor the following athletes whose extensive volunteer efforts have been of great benefit to their communities.

“College students in Montana do amazing community work, and their investment of time, talent and energy help improve our communities across the state. Campus Compact’s Montana Athletes In Service Award honors the contributions of student athlete-volunteers.” said Josh Vanek, of MTCC.
