DCC Lady Bucs Win Opening Game

On August 22nd the Lady Bucs of Dawson Community College traveled to play the Rocky Mountain College JV team in Billings for their season opener.  The Lady Buccaneers won the game in a thrilling 5 set match over the Bears of Rocky.  Rocky went on an early run to start the first set but the Bucs fought back and pulled ahead and never looked back.  DCC won the first set 25-22.  The second set was very similar for the Bucs as they started off slow but pulled ahead later on for a 25-19 win going up two sets to none against the Rocky JV team.  Rocky wasn’t going to go away quietly, they pulled out an exciting third set win over the Lady Bucs 23-25 pulling within 1 set.  The Bears ended up forcing a fifth set with a by winning 22-25 in the 4th.  The first match of the season was proving to be a great opener for both teams but the Lady Bucs pulled out the victory with a 15-11 win in the fifth set.  DCC was led in kills by Lexi Begger with 10 and 9 from Mara Johnson, Shayna Baugh and Ebonay Clark.  Cierra Loudon finished with 6 kills of her own, making it even scoring across the board.  Samantha Youngman led the way with 40 assists.  Erin Campbell tops the Lady Bucs in digs with 29, followed closely behind by Loudon with 28 and Harlee Speth with 22.  Youngman also led in aces with 7 and Baugh tallied up 5 to end the game.  Begger also contributed 4.5 blocks and Baugh finished with 4.  The first game was a great game for the Lady Bucs to start off their season.  Their next game will be on the road against the Lady Lumberjacks of Dakota College at Bottineau on Wednesday August 29th.  The first home game for DCC will be Wednesday September 12th against Bismarck State University.
