Dawson Volleyball Loses First Conference Game

The Lady Bucs of DCC traveled to Wahpeton, North Dakota to take on the Wildcats of NDSCS.  After coming out strong and winning the first set, the Lady Bucs fell in the next three to the Wildcats for their first conference loss of the season.  The first set was full of excitement as the Bucs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  NDSCS tried to make a comeback late in the set, but the Lady Bucs held on for a 25-17 first set win.  In the second set, DCC started off slower and had to play the comeback game, but didn’t have enough to finish the set and ended up losing 18-25.  An error filled third set caused some problems for the Lady Bucs as they ended up going down two sets to one after a 15-25 loss in the third.  The Bucs were not ready to go away yet though and held tough throughout the fourth set and they tried to push a fifth, but late in the game the Wildcats pulled away once again for a 3-1 victory after a fourth set score of 19-25.  This was the second conference match for the Lady Bucs so they fall to 1-1 in conference play.

The Lady Bucs then traveled from Wahpeton, North Dakota to Rangely, Colorado to play in a tournament there Friday and Saturday before they finally return home for their first home game when they will be taking on the Bismarck Lady Mystics on September 12th at 7pm for their Black Out game.

The Lady Bucs faced stiff competition in Colorado taking on NJCAA D1 programs  Colorado Northwestern, Western Wyoming, Utah State Eastern and Central Wyoming.  They competed well though they dropped all four of their matches.  Stat leaders for the weekend were Shayna Baugh leading with 10 kills followed by Lexi Begger with 8.  Samantha Youngman led the team with 17 assists while Erin Campbell led in aces with 3 and digs with 16.  Cierra Loudon was right behind Campbell in digs with 15.  Baugh had a great night at the net racking up 11 blocks while Ebonay Clark chipped in with 7 and Begger followed right behind with 4.5.

Come out to the first home game of the season and support these great girls in the annual “Black Out” Night on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.  Wear your black Bucs gear and be ready to cheer them on!
