Lady Bucs Drop First Home Match In Five

The Lady Bucs had their very first home game Wednesday September 12th against the Bismarck State Mystics.  The game brought in a good size crowd that was dressed in black for the “Black Out” event and ready to cheer on the Bucs.  The game started in a very exciting way with the Bucs coming out to a quick 4-0 lead, but after the Mystics settled in they went on their own run to tie the game up at 4.  The set was back and forth until the Bucs pulled away late to finish and take the first set 25-21.  After the great start, DCC struggled in the second set to get anything going as the Mystics put on pressure from the serving line.  BSC tied up the match with a 9-25 victory in the second set going into intermission.  Coming out of intermission, the Bucs looked more like themselves but still struggled to get going against the strong Bismarck team and dropped the third set 16-25.  The Mystics now up 2-1 had the Lady Bucs backs against the wall as they fought hard in the fourth to push it to a fifth set and doing so with a 25-20 win in the fourth.  Now tied 2 sets each the Bucs went to a deciding fifth set to 15 points.  The first half of the fifth was back and forth as both teams didn’t want to give in.  The Mystics pulled away late and the Lady Bucs couldn’t pull off the comeback at home with a 9-15 loss in the fifth set.  Coach Fritz said this about the game, “I was very pleased with our effort tonight.  We had a great crowd and great atmosphere in the gym and if we didn’t have a letdown in set number 2 who knows what would have happened.  But I am proud of the way the team battled against this top opponent in our conference.”  The leaders for this game was Shayna Baugh leading the team in kills with 14 followed by Cierra Loudon with 9 and Lexi Begger and Mara Johnson each chipped in 7.  Samantha Youngman led the team in assists with 31 and Harlee Speth had 2 crucial aces in the match.  Erin Campbell had another great defensive night with 36 digs and Loudon ended the game with 21.  Baugh was a threat once again at the net tallying up 6.5 blocks followed by Begger with 4.  The Lady Bucs take on Briercrest College on Saturday September 15th for a double header at home.  Game times start at 1pm and the second match following shortly after the first one ends.  The theme for this game is “Disney” so come out and support the Bucs and dress in your favorite Disney costume.
