Zariah Jenkins of Riverton High School, located in Riverton, UT has signed her NJCAA National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Lady Buccaneers of Dawson Community College.
Dawson Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. was elated about his recent signee, “Zariah is the real deal. Our program got much better with her signing. Zariah has a very high basketball IQ on both ends of the court. She has great moves in the paint scoring and anticipates well defensively. She’s a worker: tough and strong! I can’t wait to suit her up and start the season.”
Jenkins is a 5’10 forward who played for Coach Jodi Lee of Riverton High School. Riverton went 18-6 on the season in Class 6A Region 3. They finished 2nd in the region, ranked #4 in the state, and made a quarterfinal appearance at state. With a successful 2022 season, averaging 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, Zariah made the All-State team, All-Star game, and was voted Most Outstanding Player in the Region, School’s Athlete of the Month, and Deseret News Athlete of the Week. She was also a part her Academic All-State Championship Team in 2020-2021 having the highest gpa in the state of Utah.
Coach Lee expressed her comments, “Dawson is getting an absolute winner by signing Zariah Jenkins. Zariah has won at every level of basketball that she has played and she will bring that winning mentality to Dawson. Zariah is a tenacious defender who can guard posts and wings. Offensively she is brilliant in the open court and will beat everyone down the floor. She’s strong with her back to the basket and has a fantastic step through. Dawson got a good one when they signed this kid!”
Zariah shared her excitement, “I am so excited and grateful for the opportunity I have been given to further my basketball career. Coach Romeo stood out to me immediately compared to other coaches and I think I can really grow athletically and academically here.”
