Women’s Basketball Go Cold against United Tribes

It must have been too early of a game for the Lady Buccaneers, as they fell asleep losing to United Tribes Technical College 66-44.

The Lady Thunderbirds were able to slice through Dawson’s full court zone press in the first quarter.  United Tribes won it 21-12 in the first, and kept it going in the second quarter scoring it 13-7.  The Lady Buccaneers would strike first in the opening of the second half, but the Lady Thunderbirds would continue their offensive threat dominating the 3rd quarter 14-6.  Dawson would make a little run in the 4th quarter by playing full court pressure defense, slightly winning the 4th quarter 19-18.

After high scoring appearances by certain Lady Bucs the night before, those same individuals were nowhere to be found at 9:00 am tipoff.  Ashley Orozco led the team with 13 points.  Ervianne Cly chipped in with 11.  No other Lady Bucs could find the bottom of the net as the entire team shot 24% from the field, 21% from 3 point and 40% from the foul line.  Dawson would also turn it over 22 times.  United Tribes outscored Dawson in the paint 38-18 and off the bench 33-14.

A highly disappointed Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. added his disbelief, “You know it wasn’t really all about the game itself because I’m aware it’s anyone’s ball game when that ball is tossed at the beginning of the game.  I was more disappointed and frustrated that our young core had bad attitudes and energy from the get go.  And with that, it doesn’t really matter if you win or lose because the end result will not be enjoyed. Individual players have to understand when playing a team sport, it’s about the team, not you.”

Dawson leaves the tournament 1-2, and will prepare for their home opener against Northwest College on Friday, November 8 at 5:30pm at the Toepke Center in Glendive, MT.
