Lady Buc Kitawna Little Light Signs with NAIA School

Point guard Kitawna Little Light of Pryor, MT has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for NAIA bound Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) American Indian College in Phoenix, Arizona.  SAGU American Indian College currently plays in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), but will play independently next year in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Little Light was a former 2018 All-State player at Plenty Coups High School.  In her senior year, she was team captain, MVP and First Team All-Conference.  She was team MVP her junior year as well.

At Dawson Community College, she came as a walk-on athlete for the women’s basketball program, but earned a scholarship.  As a freshman, Kitawna started 20 games for the Lady Buccaneers and averaged 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists, while shooting 33% from the 3-point line.  That year, the Lady Bucs went 18-14 overall.  This season, she took a hiatus in the fall to focus on the volleyball team.  After volleyball season, she realized she missed playing hoops, had a conversation with head coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr., and joined the team.  Once again she made her presence known in one of her first games back.  Against Sheridan College she made 3 of 4 from three-point land and scored 11 points.  Dawson defeated Sheridan in overtime 63-60.  Her highest game as a freshman was 24 points, shooting 75% from the field in a win against Rocky Mountain College JV on December 9, 2018.  She also made 5 of 7 three-pointers against Rocky JV earlier on November 21, 2018.  Her highest assists in a game came when DCC defeated the Eastern Montana All-Stars where she had a total of 7.

Dawson’s record this season was 15-17, and Kitawna averaged 4 points and 2 rebounds, and again shot 33% from the beyond the arc.

“My time here at DCC was quite the journey, but a journey that paid off for my future.  I loved it here, and I am going to miss the community and staff that I’ve made a bond with.  But I am very excited to be able to continue my education and basketball career at AIC,” said Little Light.

Coach Lagmay commented, “Kitawna loves the game of basketball, and I am so glad that she will continue her career at the next level as a student and an athlete.  I’m going to miss her, and I tip my hat to her staying the course, as she has had a rough patch during her journey as a person.  Buc Nation will miss her.  American Indian College will be getting one heck of a shooter!”
