Dawson Women Get Back on Track

Dakota College at Bottineau was able to win the first quarter in Glendive, leading by as much as 14 points against Dawson Community College early on.  The Dawson women’s basketball team picked up the pace and outscored Dakota College the next two quarters.  Dawson eventually won the game 68-60, but not without a little scare.

The Lady Jacks converted 14 points off of DCC’s 19 turnovers.  Dakota had better shooting percentages from the field (38% to 35%) and the free throw line (61% to 60%); however, Dawson had more steals (10 to 6), and shot better from the 3-point line (32% to 29%), and had 17 second chance points to the Lady Jack’s 2.  The Lady Buccaneers also did some damage by outscoring DCB off the bench 27-4.  Another major impact was Dawson’s advantage on the boards, 58-31.

Ashya Klopfenstein led the team with another double double of 18 points and 14 rebounds, along with a game high of 6 steals.  Ashley Orozco had 17 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.  Haley Olson chipped in with 11 points, shooting 3-9 from beyond the arc, while having 6 rebounds and 1 steal.

While the game had 4 lead changes and 3 ties, Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. was glad to see his players always compete, “When its conference time, everyone is competing for that top spot.  We have a very strong women’s side in the Mon-Dak Conference.  There are no breaks.  It could be anyone’s victory among 6 of our teams.  Tonight we showed some weak one on one defense, but as a whole, it’s good to see our Lady Bucs compete, regardless the score, and tonight it went our way.”

The Lady Bucs will travel to Williston, ND to take on the Lady Tetons of Williston State College on Thursday, January 23 at 5:30 pm.
