Dakota Bottineau Stuns Dawson in Conference Matchup

Dakota College at Bottineau (11-18, 2-10) was able to sustain a 1st quarter deficit to Dawson Community College (14-15, 6-6) and cruise to a 79-62 victory.

Early foul trouble led to Dawson’s devastating loss on the road Sunday; and the Lady Jacks capitalized on almost every opportunity.  Dakota destroyed the Lady Bucs 51-27 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.  Ashya Klopfenstein and Arena Plenty would eventually foul out of the game, leaving Dawson without their impact post players.  Though Dawson outrebounded Dakota 46-34, the Lady Bucs could not find the bottom of the net, making only 22 of 73 shots, resulting in 31% from the field.  Dawson had 20 turnovers, while Dakota had 14 steals, 15 team assists, and shot 18-29 from the charity stripe.  The Lady Bucs committed 24 team fouls and only had 9 assists in the game.

Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. was perplexed about the outcome, “I said it a few times before, and I’ll say it again, ‘we are a team that can beat anyone, but can also lose to anyone.’  Tonight, Coach Wayne Johnson had his girls ready to go, and they sure took care of business on us.  They deserve that win as they played their tails off.  Kudos to them.  This is college ball, and anything can happen on any given night.  We can’t afford to be undisciplined at times.  It’s the small mistakes that are costing us wins.  Great job to the Lady Jacks on keeping their composure and playing for each other.”

Ashley Orozco led the team with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.  Klopfenstein had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.  Tamiya Francis scored 11 points, and had 5 assists, 1 steal and 8 rebounds.  Megan Lindbo contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Dawson will play their last home game on Thursday, February 20 at 5:30 pm against Miles Community College on Sophomore Night.
