Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball came up short in trying to defeat the Lady Wildcats of North Dakota State College of Science in Wapheton, ND.  The first meeting between the two was in Glendive, and the Lady Buccaneers got beat 89-52.  This time around, Dawson was ready and fought till the end, but lost by a close margin of 70-80.

Having less turnovers was an improvement from the last game; they only had 19 this time around.  However, there were three starters for the Lady Bucs who got into early foul trouble and only played primarily in the first and last quarters.  Lack of scoring power from multiple Dawson players is what seems to cause many problems for the Lady Bucs.  They also fell short to NDSCS’s rebounding power as the home team had the edge 43-36.

Alexius Foster led the game with 24 points, along with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.  This also marks the game Foster reached 1000 points in her career, making her 1 point shy of becoming the 2nd All-Time leading scorer in the history of Dawson Community College.  Tasia Moore came off the bench to score 13 points, grab 2 rebounds and dish out 2 assists.  Chynna Torrence scored 11 points and had 2 rebounds as well.

Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. was not present due to a family emergency, but did get a chance to view the entire game live stream and talk to his team before and after the game as well as halftime.  Coach Lagmay gave his postgame insights, “Though it was a hard fought battle, which is always commendable, we handicap ourselves by getting into foul trouble with players who are major impacts of the game.  If we can become more disciplined on defense, then some of these games can have different results.  We respect the fight, but we need to stay in the fight longer.  Hopefully we can get it together soon heading into the end of conference play.”

Dawson will host Lake Region State College Sunday, February 10th at 2:00 pm.  Sunday will also feature DCC’s first inaugural induction of its Hall of Fame nominees in between the women’s and men’s game.
