Lady Bucs Basketball Lose in Overtime

Losing their third game in a row, DCC Lady Buccaneers had a chance to break that cycle hosting the Lady Royals of Lake Region State College.  Dawson would lead the first half of the game 43-27, but would lose both quarters in the second half and in overtime allowing Lake Region to steal the game 84-76.

Lake Region had a hot shooting night.  They made 85% of their free throws, 45% from the field and a scorching 47% from beyond the arc.  They would also outrebound the Lady Bucs 42-34.  DCC surprisingly shot well from the foul line at 88%, but poor shooting from 3- point range going 24% for the game.

Alexius Foster scored 18 points and had 4 rebounds, but was unable to finish the game fouling out in the middle of the 4th quarter.  Sarah Miranda also scored 18 points, collected 7 rebounds and had 2 steals.  Ejanae Coopwood contributed 14 points, 4 rebounds and 5 steals.  Coopwood surpassed Kaila Fowler (2001-03) as the all-time leader in steals at DCC with 140 steals. Fowler held it for 16 years with 136 steals.  Tasia Moore chipped in with 12 points, scoring 2-2 from the foul line to send it into overtime.

A very displeased Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr., “This one was tough to swallow.  We had great preparation for this game, and we started off in the first half well.  However, we just don’t have confident ball handling and passing, and that hurts us a lot.  I’m really at a loss for words, but I hope we can find our way out of this poor mess we made.”

Dawson now travels on the road to face Williston State on Thursday, February 14th at 5:30 pm CST.  DCC is now 4-6 in conference play, sliding into the bottom half of the conference standings.
