It was a very entertaining women’s basketball game with two teams very similar in statistics and win-loss records. Gillette College won the first meeting this season on November 17th defeating Dawson Community College 81-66. This time in Glendive, Dawson would seek their revenge, and win in a down-to-the wire game 61-59.
The Lady Bucs started the game on fire scoring the first 8 points. Dawson led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter. However, Dawson found themselves down 43-44 at halftime. The game continued throughout the second half back and forth with both teams going on scoring runs to regain the lead. Finally, the Lady Pronghorns of Gillette would seem to command the game, being up by ten with 3:00 minutes left in the game.
That would soon change with Coach Romeo Lagmay calling quick-hitting play after play going to his reigning 2018 Conference MVP and NJCAA All-American Alexius Foster. Foster made the last 11 points in the game. She made all four of her shots in the final three minutes. The first three were 3-pointers, and the second was on a drive to the basket.
Alexius scored 25 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 3 steals in the g ame. Kitawna Little Light added 13 points, 2 rebounds and a game high 5 assists. Chynna Torrence pulled in 11 rebounds for a game high for her second straight game.
DCC managed to have a season low of 13 turnovers. They also had 10 steals for the game.
Coach Lagmay on the game, “It was so nerve-racking. It really did seem as if Gilllette would pull away, but we always stress to our team to fight to the end. And this afternoon, they did. However, it if wasn’t for Alexius’s scoring power, it would have been a different story. She’s known to hit shots under pressure. This is the second time this season we came from behind in a short amount of time, and Alexius completes our victory with unbelievable shots! She did the same thing last year a few times. There’s no doubt she was in the zone.”
