The Lady Buccaneers Basketball program of Dawson Community College has added 6’1 center, Dymitrea Finley of McClintock High School in Tempe, Arizona to their 2019-2020 roster.
Finley will be joining Dawson as a freshman this upcoming fall. This will be the second inside post player that Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. has found for next season. Finley averaged 4 points per game and 5.5 rebounds in her senior year. In addition to basketball, Dymitrea has earned accomplishments as a track and field athlete. She has participated in field events since her freshman year. Her personal record for shot put is 34’2”. In her first year this year in throwing the javelin, she has a personal record of 93’ 11”. She currently has qualified in both events to the state finals with these measurements.
McClintock High School plays in the 5A Northeast Valley Conference of the Arizona Interscholastic Association. McClintock is coached by Lady Chargers Head Coach Sherre Walker. Coach Walker feels Dymitrea still has a high ceiling of improvement to be made, “Dymitrea improved so much this season. Missing some of high school ball due to transfer issues got the best of her, but as the season went on, she got better. By the time we saw what she could really do, the season was over. It was a pleasure working with Dymitrea for the 2018-2019 basketball season. She is a player who is a hard worker, hustler and steps up. I was willing to give her a chance after being off a year and I was happy with my decision. Dymitrea will be a great asset to the Dawson CC women's basketball program.”
Coach Romeo is also delighted to work with Dymitrea, “I just believe she has much more to offer. She discusses how bad she wants to get better and become an impact at the collegiate level. I have evaluated her game film and was impressed by the strength she possesses rebounding and screening. I’m also impressed that she can grab a rebound and dribble the length of the court, or that she can really outlet the ball from the defensive arc to the frontcourt foul line. She will have to improve on her short range jumper and some conditioning, but effort is hard to coach, and Dymitrea possesses that.”
Dymitrea is excited about her new institution, “The reason why I chose to go to Dawson is because I believe their basketball program will help develop my talent more, and it is a great opportunity playing out of state. My signing day was a great experience. I enjoyed it a lot and the support I had on my day was absolutely amazing.”
