Recent graduate Alexius Foster of Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball has officially signed her NCAA National Letter of Intent to continue her career at the University of Denver.
Alexius Foster played two seasons for the Lady Buccaneers and Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. from 2017-2019. In addition to being a Mon-Dak Academic All-Conference player this past season, Alexius has accomplished much in her two years at Dawson. In her freshman debut, she was the conference’s leading scorer, leader in 3 point percentage, Team MVP, Mon-Dak Conference and NJCAA Region 13 MVP, and NJCAA Third Team All-American. That summer she was voted as one of the Top 40 NJCAA players to participate in the All-Star game held in Atlanta, GA. Concluding her sophomore season, she was once again voted Team MVP, First Team All-Conference, All-Region, and WBCA All-American Honorable Mention. Alexius also became Dawson’s second all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball history with 1,191 points.
She will join a Denver program led by Head Coach Jim Turgeon. In 2017-18, the Lady Pioneers had the most wins since the 2011-12 season, 4th highest Summit League Tournament seeding in school history, and the #1 turnaround by 1st year staffs in NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball. This past season, they set history again having the 3rd highest tournament seeding in school history, best Summit League record in school history (10-6), most wins since 2012 season (18), first back to back winning seasons since 2012, WNIT appearance, and 1st post-season victory in school history, defeating New Mexico in the first round of the WNIT. Coach Turgeon commented on his new signee, “We are extremely excited about adding Alexius to our family. She just fits in so many ways on and off the court. She brings experience and toughness to our squad that is going to pay huge dividends this upcoming season and in the Summit League. We can’t wait to get her on campus with us this summer.”
Coach Lagmay was also excited for Alexius, “Alexius came here two years ago, and we came up with some major goals in mind: dominate on the court and graduate. She accomplished that, and now the next level awaits her. I will continue to pray for her, as I do for all of our athletes, and hopefully she will transition smoothly, and not miss a beat. We will most assuredly miss her, not only as a student-athlete, but as a person as a whole. She is definitely a future Hall of Famer for Dawson Community College Athletics!”
Alexius had this to say about her signing, “I want to take the time out and appreciate all that Dawson has done for me from the coaches to the community. It has really helped me blossom into a respectable athlete and I can’t wait to take that with me to the University of Denver to continue to flourish.”
