DCC’s Alexius Foster Named Conference Player of the Year

With another successful 20 game win season, Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball added another merit to their plate.  5’7” freshman guard Alexius Foster was voted NJCAA Region XIII Player of the Year.

Foster played in all 32 games of the 2018 season.  She led her team in scoring, shooting 44% from the field, 34% from three and 78% from the foul line.  After leading her team to an overall 20-12 record, Foster finished the season averaging 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.  She had twelve 20-point plus games, and in two separate games she recorded highs of 34 points and 22 rebounds.

Foster also led the Mon-Dak in scoring and was fifth in 3-point shooting percentage.  She was voted 2-Time Player of the Week throughout conference play.  In the NJCAA, she was nationally ranked #24 in scoring average and #8 in most points scored with 574.

In response to having such an accolade in her career, Foster said, “Without the work of my teammates, player of the year would not be a possibility.  They are the ones who do all the dirty work.  I just make the shots.  So it’s great to have the teammates and coach that I do.”

Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. added, “This is a great honor not only for Alexius to have, but the entire basketball program, Dawson campus and Glendive community.  She represented us well on the court and in the community.  Her involvement in community affairs went a long way as well.  I’m definitely proud of her, and I can’t wait to see more of her next season.”
