Tough Weekend in Glendive for the Lady Bucs

Apr 18, 2024

It was a tough weekend for the Lady Bucs last weekend against NDSCS as they finished 1-3. The Lady Bucs dominated in the circle and at the plate however, too many defensive errors were committed.

Freshman pitcher, Riley Price, finished the weekend with an ERA of 1.52, garnering 31 strikeouts, and 23 innings pitched. Sophomore pitcher, Faith McDonald, threw the entire third game. She stuck out five, had an ERA of 4.9 and allowed 19 hits.

At the plate, Stocktyn Stevenson led the Bucs with a .500 batting average. She had a total of six hits, two triples, four runs scored and three walks. Samantha Maerz was next closest with a .357 batting average. She garnered five hits, one homerun, five RBIs, 3 runs scored, and one hit-by-pitch to get on base. On the bases, the Buccaneers stole seven bases over the four games. This was led by Stevenson with three, Shelby Blankenship with two, and Madi Duke with two.

Head softball coach Casey-May Huff had this to say, "First off, we faced a very tough team this past weekend. NDSCS is ranked #1 in the nation for D3 softball. They are coming off of winning the Division III nationals last year. We definitely have a lot of work to do still, especially defensively; however, with the exception of the third game, we played them tight only losing 3-2 and 10-8. We simply lost on errors. We beat ourselves. Overall, I am proud of how the girls played such a tough program, but I know we have more to show than what we have been."

The Lady Bucs will be on the road this Saturday playing against Williston State College at 12:00 & 2:00PM MST. There will be home games on Sunday at 1:00 & 3:00PM vs WSC. The Lady Bucs will also be celebrating their sophomores after the games on Sunday at the field. The five graduating are Faith McDonald, Jillian Johnson, Sydnie Newell, Brooke Lijewski, and Kenadee Beck. Come out and support the five who have given it their all these last two years!
