DCC Softball player April Davis was the recipient of the Montana Athletes in Service Award through Campus Compact Montana. Montana Campus Compact is a statewide network of colleges and universities committed to educating students for civic and social responsibility by encouraging community service and volunteerism. Each year, Campus Compact’s Board of Directors recognizes outstanding civically engaged student athletes from colleges and universities across the state for their commitment to community service by proudly presenting the Montana Athletes in Service Award.
April is a sophomore on the Women's Softball Team and she comes from Helena, Montana. She was honored during the Cat-Griz Brawl of the Wild game in Bozeman along with the award recipients from every college in the state of Montana.
On the field, April helped lead the Lady Bucs to their best record ever, going 43-5 on the season. She played in 43 games and batted .351 while collecting 40 hits and 25 RBI’s. They finished one game away from Nationals.
Off the field, April’s positive personality allows her to easily get engaged with the community. She took initiative to reach out in the community to make a difference to others. Some of the ways she has served in the community are setting up and cleaning up for community events, helping with a high school volleyball tournament, volunteering at a thrift store, serving food at a fundraising event, being an FFA judge and moving furniture for people in the community. April has made a measurable impact over the past two years as a passionate advocate to help others and she has inspired many people by her dedication and selflessness to always being a helping hand.
Her coach, Jim LeProwse, shared his sentiments, “April Davis is a great person and always a joy to be around. She is a leader by example and is always willing to help anyone at any time.”
To go along with the award and recognition, DCC President Dr. Scott Mickelsen also awarded her a $500 scholarship for next semester.
