Shelby Martin Drives in Six to Dawson Community College Softball Victory Over Williston State College 24-3

Shelby Martin was an RBI machine on Saturday, driving in six on three hits to lead Dawson Community College past Williston State College 24-3. Martin drove in runs on a single in the first, a walk in the second, a home run in the third, and a single in the fifth. Dawson got things moving in the first inning. Lady Buccaneers scored two runs when Alison Ellertson doubled. Dawson put up ten runs in the second inning. Reannon Justice, April Davis, Shelby Martin, Hadley Bennett, Maycen O'Neal, and Ashlyn Tingey all drove in runs in the frame. Martin was on the rubber for Dawson. She allowed five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out eight.

Haylee Barta was in the circle for Williston State College. She surrendered 16 runs on five hits over one and two-thirds innings. Adrianna Somerville threw three and a third innings out of the bullpen. Lady Bucs launched two home runs on the day. Martin had a four bagger in the third inning. Justice had a long ball in the second inning.

Dawson totaled 14 hits. Kylee Hergenrider , Martin, O'Neal, and Reannon Justice each collected multiple hits for Dawson. Martin and Hergenrider each collected three hits to lead Dawson. Adley Swanson led Williston State with two hits in two at bats. Williston State didn't commit a single error in the field. Victoria Duran had the most chances in the field with five.

Coach Jim LeProwse commented, “We hit the ball very well in this game and did a great job pitching and playing defense. I am pleased with the way we came out on top in this big conference game.”

Alexa of Dawson Community College Shuts Out Williston 10-0

Alexa Kappel didn't allow a single run against Williston State, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Dawson to a 10-0 victory on Saturday. Dawson secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the fourth inning. Dawson big bats were led by Alison Ellertson, Ashlyn Tingey, Reannon Justice, Kylee Hergenrider , Maycen O'Neal, and Shelby Martin, who all drove in runs. Dawson got on the board in the first inning. An error scored one run for Dawson. Dawson tallied eight runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by Dawson was led by Ellertson, Tingey, Justice, Hergenrider , O'Neal, and Martin, all driving in runs in the inning.

One bright spot for Williston State was a single by Tyra Johnson in the second inning. Kappel was in the pitcher's circle for Dawson. She allowed three hits and zero runs over four and a third innings, striking out three. Johnson toed the rubber for Williston State. She went five innings, allowing ten runs on ten hits and striking out three.

Dawson collected ten hits on the day. Martin, April Davis, and Jordyn O'Neal all managed multiple hits for Dawson. O'Neal, Davis, and Martin each collected two hits to lead Dawson.

“We continued to hit the ball well in this game. Alexa did a great job by limiting Williston state to only 3 hits and throwing another shutout,” said Coach LeProwse.

Shelby Martin Drives in Seven as Dawson Wins Over Williston 13-2

Shelby Martin showed timely hitting on Sunday, driving in seven on two hits to lead Dawson past Williston 13-2 on Sunday. Martin drove in runs on a home run in the first and a grand slam in the third. Lady Bucs grabbed an early lead. Dawson scored on a sacrifice fly by Maycen O'Neal, a single by Alison Ellertson, and a home run by Martin in the first inning. Lady Buccaneers tallied five runs in the third inning. April Davis and Martin all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Shelby Martin led things off in the circle for Dawson. She allowed one hit and two runs over five innings, striking out three.

Tyra Johnson led things off on the rubber for Williston. She allowed seven hits and ten runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Haylee Barta threw one inning in relief. Dawson socked two home run on the day. Martin had a homer in the first and third innings. Lady Bucs collected eight hits on the day. Jordyn O'Neal and Martin all had multiple hits for Dawson. Martin and O'Neal each collected two hits to lead Lady Bucs. Barta led Williston with one hit in one at bats.

Coach LeProwse stated, “Wow Shelby Martin had a great game in this one. She hit two home runs had seven RBIs and threw a one hitter. What a game she had. As a team we did a great job of coming out on top again against a conference rival.”

With Alexa on the Mound, Dawson Shuts Out Williston 8-0

Alexa Kappel threw a gem on Sunday for Dawson, allowing zero runs and besting Williston by a score of 8-0. Dawson got things moving in the first inning, when Shelby Martin drew a walk, scoring one run. Lady Bucs tallied three runs in the fifth inning. Dawson offense in the inning was led by Hadley Bennett and Ashlyn Tingey, all driving in runs in the inning.

One bright spot for Williston was a single by Jordan Beyer in the second inning. Kappel was on the rubber for Dawson. She lasted five innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking one. Haylee Barta led things off in the pitcher's circle for Williston. She lasted four and a third innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs. Trinity Anderson led Dawson with two hits in three at bats. Dawson was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Bennett had the most chances in the field with six. Alison Ellertson led Dawson with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with ten stolen bases.

Beyer went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Williston in hits.

Coach LeProwse had this to say, “It was great to come out with a series sweep of Williston State. Alexa did another great job throwing another shutout. We did not hit the ball as well as we normally do in this game. All in all I am very pleased with the weekend. We now tied the program record for the most wins in a single season at 31.”
