Scottsdale Loses Two to Dawson Softball

Dawson Community College Softball Holds Off Scottsdale Community College For Victory

Dawson Community College built a seven-run lead in the second inning and then held off Scottsdale Community College's charge for a 9-7 victory on Monday. Scottsdale Community College scored six runs in the failed comeback on a double by Osteen in the second, a home run by Erran in the third, and one in the sixth.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Dawson collected 14 hits and Scottsdale had eight.  Lady Buccaneers fired up the offense in the first inning.  Maycen O'Neal's sac fly scored one run for Dawson. Dawson put up five runs in the second inning. Lady Bucs batters contributing to the big inning included Hadley Bennett, Maycen O'Neal, and Reannon Justice, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Scottsdale CC scored three runs in the second inning. Scottsdale scored its runs on a double by Osteen .  Shelby Martin led things off on the rubber for Dawson. She surrendered seven runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out five.  Westbrook was in the pitcher's circle for Scottsdale. She allowed ten hits and eight runs over two innings, walking zero.  Smith threw five innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Dawson hit one home run on the day. Justice had a homer in the second inning.  DCC tallied 14 hits in the game.  April Davis, Trinity Anderson, and Alison Ellertson each managed multiple hits for Dawson. April Davis went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Dawson. 

Scottsdale Community College totaled eight hits.  Erran and Osteen all managed multiple hits for Scottsdale. Erran led Scottsdale with three hits in three at bats. Scottsdale Community College didn't commit a single error in the field. Murillo had the most chances in the field with five.

Coach LeProwse said that he was pleased with the way his team hit the ball today. "We out hit Scottsdale in this game and played defense well enough to win."

Four RBI Day For Ashlyn Tingey Leads Dawson Past Scottsdale 
 
Ashlyn Tingey was an RBI machine on Monday, driving in four on three hits to lead Dawson Community College Softball 13-7 on Monday. Tingey drove in runs on a groundout in the third and a home run in the fourth.  Bats blistered as Dawson collected 17 hits and Scottsdale Community College tallied 18 in the high-scoring game.  Scottsdale Community College fired up the offense in the second inning. Scottsdale scored two runs when Osteen doubled.  Dawson pulled away for good with five runs in the fourth inning.  In the fourth, Ashlyn Tingey homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs and Reannon Justice homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
 
Alexa Kappel got the start for Dawson Community College. She went seven innings, allowing seven runs on 18 hits and striking out three.  Edwards started the game for Scottsdale. She surrendered ten runs on 11 hits over five and a third innings, striking out six and walking one. Smith threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
The Lady Buccaneers smacked four home runs on the day. Hadley Bennett had a long ball in the seventh inning. Ashlyn Tingey had a dinger in the fourth inning. Reannon Justice put one out in the fourth and sixth innings.  DCC scattered 17 hits in the game. Tingey, Bennett, Alison Ellertson, Trinity Anderson, Fallyn Marshall, and Reannon Justice each managed multiple hits for Dawson. Ellertson, Bennett , and Tingey each collected three hits to lead Dawson. Lady Bucs was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Anderson made the most plays with four.
 
Scottsdale Community College collected 18 hits on the day.  Smith, Stott, Erran , Mu rillo, Bell, and Alvarado all collected multiple hits for Scottsdale CC.
 
Coach LeProwse stated that he was again pleased with the way his team hit the ball. "Anytime we have 17 hits in a game I will be happy. Scottsdale is a very good hitting team and out hit us, but I am extremely excited that we came out with a sweep of this two game series with them. 31 hits in two games is exciting and add the 5 home runs in this double header would make any coach excited to see what his team will do next."
