DCC Women Softball One Game Away from Nationals

The Lady Buccaneers of Dawson Community College are on the brink of making it to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time in school history.  However, Kirkwood Community College of Cedar Rapids, IA is standing in their way.  Dawson, ranked #18 in the nation will need to beat #7 ranked Kirkwood in Game 3 of the District Championship series on Thursday at 12:00 pm at BL Baker Memorial Field on the campus of Dawson Community College.

The teams split the opening two games of the District H Championship series on Wednesday.  Dawson won in the first game 1-0.  Shelby Martin pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 6 and allowing only 5 hits in 7 innings. Kirkwood never got a runner past second base in the game. Martin also drove in the game’s only run. In the top of the first inning, her single to left center drove in leadoff batter Trinity Anderson. Martin’s heroics on the mound kept the Lady Bucs on top for the rest of the way. April Davis went 2-2 at the plate with a single, double and walk. Trinity Anderson was 2-4 and scored the game winning run.

In the second game, Kirkwood made their presence known and dominated the Lady Bucs 12-3, forcing a decisive third game Thursday.

Game 3 will begin on Wednesday at 12:00 pm MST.  Admission is free.  The winner moves on to play in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Clinton, MS.
