Dawson Community College Softball Nabs Win Over Dickinson State University Despite Early 3-Run Inning 7-4

Even though Dawson Community College Softball gave up three runs in the fourth inning, they still defeated Dickinson State University 7-4 on Tuesday. Dickinson State University scored its runs on a home run by Welch. Dickinson State University got things moving in the first inning, when Shelby Martin threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Dickinson State.

In the bottom of the first inning, Dawson tied things up at one. Ashlyn Tingey grounded out, scoring one run. Lady Bucs pulled away for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Jordyn O'Neal was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, Trinity Anderson singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, and Hadley Bennett singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. Martin was on the rubber for Dawson. She surrendered four runs on two hits over six innings, striking out five.

Eilers was in the circle for Dickinson State. She allowed ten hits and seven runs over four innings. Allen threw two innings out of the bullpen. Lady Bucs tallied one home run on the day. Reannon Justice had a four bagger in the fifth inning. Dawson tallied 12 hits on the day. Justice, Anderson, Alison Ellertson, and Martin all had multiple hits for Dawson. Justice led Dawson with three hits in four at bats. Dickinson State was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Menke had the most chances in the field with five.

Coach LeProwse had this to say about his team’s performance, “We hit the ball very well in this game. We had 12 hits against a very good Dickinson State team. We moved runners very well and drove in runs when we had chances. I am very pleased with the way we played in this game. Shelby Martin did a great job only allowing two hits in this game.”

Dickinson State Runs Away With Early Lead in Victory 8-0

Dawson watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 8-0 loss to Dickinson State University on Tuesday. Dickinson State scored on a home run by Rodriguez and a home run by Allen in the first inning. The Lady Buccaneers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Dickinson State, giving up eight runs.  Dickinson State got things moving in the first inning. Rodriguez hit a solo homer.

One bright spot for Dawson was a single by Kylee Hergenrider in the fourth inning. Mesi led things off in the circle for Dickinson. She surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out two. Alexa Kappel led things off on the rubber for Lady Buccaneers. She went four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits, striking out two and walking one. Jordyn O'Neal threw one-third of an inning in relief. Dickinson tallied three home runs on the day. Rodriguez had a homer in the first inning. Lawrene put one out in the fifth inning. Allen had a four bagger in the first inning. Camryn Huston and Hergenrider each collected one hit to lead Dawson.

Dickinson State tallied 14 hits in the game. Rodriguez.  Stephens , Lawrene , and Allen each had multiple hits for Dickinson. Rodriguez led Dickinson with four hits in four at bats.

Coach LeProwse said, “We did not hit the ball well at all in this game. We only had two hits and did not have many baserunners to be able to execute anything offensively in this game. Defensively we made some costly errors and Dickinson State capitalized on them. This game was the end of a 22 game winning streak for us, but hopefully we can start a new streak this weekend against Williston State College.”
