DCC Freshmen Cowgirl and Cowboy do well at MSU double rodeo

The DCC Rodeo Team travelled to Bozeman, Montana, to compete in the MSU Spring Rodeo. The double rodeo was held April 6th-9th in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse on the campus of Montana State University.  DCC Rodeo team freshmen, Fayth Panchuk and Matt Leippi, led the team.

In the first of the double rodeos, Panchuk caught her first breakaway calf in 3.0 seconds, placing her fourth in the long-go.  She roped her short-go calf in 3.2 seconds, placing second in the go and third in the average.  The regional points earned for her efforts currently place her 11th in the Big Sky Region Breakaway Roping standings.  Other team members earning regionals points in this rodeo include Layton Bohlman, who placed 5th in the tie down roping in both the short-go and the average, and Jessie Orahood, placing 6th in the goat tying in the short-go.

MSU’s second rodeo on Sunday saw Leippi make an 82 point ride on a C5 Rodeo bull to win the bull riding.  Leippi was one of only three qualified rides in the second rodeo.  The win puts him in seventh in the regional standings after sitting out the fall season when he suffered an excruciating break to his left humerus bone at the Big Sky Region’s season opener, the NWC Trapper Stampede rodeo in Cody, WY.

With four rodeos remaining in the Big Sky Region’s season, the DCC Rodeo Team will host its home rodeo April 20th and 21st at the Dawson County Fairgrounds (6:00 pm performances each night and 9:00 am slack on the 21st) before travelling to MCC’s rodeo April 22nd and 23rd, UM’s rodeo April 28th and 29th and the UGF rodeo May 4th-6th.  At the culmination of the season, the region’s top 3 individuals in each event and top two men’s and women’s teams qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, June 11th-17th
