Dawson’s Buckmon Named NJCAA All-American

The NJCAA Division I All-American teams were released this week and the Buccaneer's Ty Buckmon was honored among the nation's best. Buckmon is only the 6th Buccaneer basketball player all-time to receive All-American status in the program's 66 year history. The 6'3 sophomore from The Woodlands, Texas averaged 14.2 points. 4.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game He finished in the Top 10 in six categories in the Mon-Dak Conference, including finishing second in assists and third in steals. He reached double figures 22 times and reached 20 points 8 times. His career high was 28 points at Northwest College. Buckmon also won the MVP award at the Mon-Dak Conference Tip-off Tournament.

"It is a lot of fun to see people who have worked so hard get rewarded with recognition, especially at the National level," commented Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "Ty improved so much from his freshman to his sophomore year because he just kept working day in and day out. He was a great leader for us and was the engine that made us go all season long."

Fifty players were honored on the 2023-2024 All-American team out of over 2000 NJCAA Division I basketball players. The previous Dawson All-Americans include Joe Mpoyo, Charles Lampten, Simon Falokun, Doug Frederick and Gary Bauman.
