Dawson Signs MC Basketball Standout Seth Amunrud
Dawson Community College Coach Joe Peterson announced the signing of his first recruit in their next recruiting class. 6’3 Guard Seth Amunrud from Manhattan Christian will be joining the Buccaneers in 2023-2024.
“I am thrilled that Seth chose Dawson! He is exactly the type of player who thrives in our program and system. He is incredibly skilled, has a really high IQ and works as hard as anyone. He attended our basketball camp in my first couple of years here and it has been fun to see him grow and develop into one of the best players in the state. We saw that potential a long time ago, but his hard work has made him into a champion on and off the court.”
Last season as a junior, Amunrud led the Eagles to an undefeated season that ended with another Class C State Championship. They finished 27-0. Amunrud averaged 17.2 ppg while shooting 58.8% from the field, 45% from 3-point range and 82.5% from the free throw line. He also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.4 steals per game. He was the leading vote-getter in their conference and was named 1st Team All-State for the second straight year. He won his team’s Hard Work Award. After the season he participated in the Highline Invitational Tournament (HIT) with all the best players from around the state and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
As a sophomore, Amunrud led the Eagles to a 25-2 record and a 3rd place finish at state. He produced 18 ppg, 4.78 rpg, and 3.35 spg while shooting 52% from the field and 44% from 3-point range. He won his team’s Humility Award. In his freshman year, the Eagles went 23-3 while winning their division, winning their district and placing 5th at the State Tournament.
Manhattan Christian Coach Layne Glaus praised Amunrud, “Seth is a relentless worker and truly understands the value of humility. He is well-rounded as a player and is one of the nicest kids you’ll ever meet. I believe he will continue to get better and excel as he moves forward with his basketball career.”
In addition to his success on the court, Seth placed in the top 4 at State Track as a junior (2nd in triple jump, 2nd in 4x400 relay, 4th in long jump, and 6th in the 400 meter). He decided to run cross-country this year for the first time and finished 5th at state, helping his team win another state championship.
He is also at the top of his class academically and has been named Academic All-State all three years of high school.
According to Amunrud, “God just directed my steps here and I really love the family culture at Dawson. It really feels like home. Also I want to thank my parents and coaches for all their help and support. They have helped me so much and I am very grateful for them.”
Amunrud and the Eagles will open up their title defense against White Sulphur Springs on December 3rd.
