Browning’s Spoonhunter Heading to Dawson

6’3 Guard Riley Spoonhunter signed his National Letter of Intent with Dawson Community College.  The Browning standout will be joining a basketball program that won 27 games as well as conference and region championships this past year.  Spoonhunter was the 3rd leading scorer in Montana’s Class A this past season, averaging 20.1 points per game.  He led the state in assists with 5.1 per game and was also 3rd in steals with 3.0 per game while getting 5.4 rebounds per game.  He led Browning to an 18-5 record this season and a birth in the semifinals at the state tournament before losing to Butte Central.  As a Junior at Browning, they finished 23-4.

He spent his first two years of high school at Heart Butte.  In his sophomore year, his team went undefeated through the regular season, districts and divisionals before losing at state, while staying in hotels for 3 weeks after paralyzing snow and wind kept them from travelling back home during the month of February.  Spoonhunter amassed a record of 83-14 in his four years of high school.  He was selected All-Conference in all four years and All-State for three years.  He reached over 1500 points during his high school career.

Dawson Coach Joe Peterson said, “Riley has had a lot of success in high school; individually and as a team. He really understands the game well and has the ability to shoot, score and create for others. I think he’s ready to work hard and help build on the success we’ve had over the past couple of years.”

Riley shared, “I’ve always dreamed and worked hard to compete at the next level and to be blessed with this opportunity is amazing.  Let’s get to work!”

Spoonhunter is an enrolled member of the MHA Nation of North Dakota and descendant of the Blackfeet and Arapaho tribes.
