Sheridan College Uses Strong 2nd half to stay Undefeated

The undefeated Sheridan College Generals exploded in the second half to move to 10-0 on the season.  They have won every game this year by double digits.  In the first half, the young Bucs hung tough throughout.  Sheridan did build a 15 point lead at one point, but it didn’t last long as Jaron Masis provided some scoring punch inside and Marcus Stephens was scoring from the perimeter.  Stephens got fouled on the Bucs final possession of the half and hit two free throws to pull the visitors within three points at 47-44.  In the opening twenty minutes the Bucs shot 53% from the field, 40% from three-point range and 80% from the free throw line while only turning it over six times.

The second half was a different story as the Generals came out strong which started with a three-pointer by Adham Eleeda and they never looked back as they posted 68 points in the half by shooting 61% from the field, 54% from three point range and 68% from the free throw line while forcing 13 turnovers and absolutely dominating the boards.  The Bucs maintained their offensive pace, but just couldn’t get the defensive stops and rebounds to keep them close.

Dawson Coach Joe Peterson was disappointed, “We showed that for stretches we can hang with anyone, but we just didn’t maintain that same intensity in the second half.  We have to be better at keeping guys in front of us defensively, close-out on shooters then finish possessions by being more physical on block-outs and securing the rebound.  Their strength, power and athleticism overwhelmed us in the second half. They are an incredibly talented and deep team.  We need to get better on the boards if we want to compete with teams like this.”

Dawson was once again led in scoring by Marcus Stephens with 16 points while also dishing out 3 assists. Cam'ron Dunfee had a good offensive and defensive game by, scoring 13 points and getting 4 steals. Jaron Masis scored 12 points on an efficient 6 of 6 shooting.

Sheridan's Adham Eleeda led the General attack with 25 points on 7 of 12 shooting from 3-point range. Camron Reece was a force inside with 14 points and 6 rebounds, 5 of which came on the offensive glass. Josh Bagley contributed 13 points and both Sasa Vuksanovic and Javary Christmas chipped in 10 points each.

Dawson will play on the road at Northwest College Saturday afternoon before returning home for games on December 8th and 9th.
