Dawson’s McKinney Signs with University of Providence

Hunter McKinney signed a Letter of Intent to play for his hometown school, Providence College in Great Falls.  McKinney was a 6’2 freshman guard on the Dawson basketball team that finished the year at 20-12 overall and 10-4 in conference.  He averaged 3 points per game while shooting 36% from the field and 35% from the 3 point line.  His season high was 10 points against Little Bighorn College and he scored 9 points against Gillette College and United Tribes Technical College, connecting on three from long range in both of those games.  McKinney went to high school at Great Falls High School and was a big part of a team that finished 3rd in the AA State Tournament.

He will be joining an Argonauts team that went 18-12 in Coach Steve Keller’s first season at the helm.  With his good outside shooting, McKinney will fit in well as Providence shot nearly 40% from the 3 point line on the season and made over 9 three pointers per game.

Dawson Coach Joe Peterson praised McKinney, “Hunter spent a lot of time in the gym on his own working on his game.  He is one of the hardest working players I’ve coached and as good of a shooter as you’ll find.  I’m excited that he found a good fit and will get to return home to continue his education and play basketball.”
