Buccaneer Basketball Signs Big Guy out of Texas

DCC Basketball Head Coach Joe Peterson announced his latest signing, Charles Lampten.  Lampten comes to Dawson from Byron Nelson High School in Texas.  Originally from Cameroon, Lampten moved to the US a couple of years ago to live with his aunt.  Even though he had played soccer his entire life, he took up basketball when he arrived in Texas and has progressed quickly because of his size, work ethic and IQ.  Lampten is 6’10 and has an even longer wingspan.

Lampten explained his decision to come to Dawson, “I trusted my AAU coach who trusted a D1 coach who spoke highly of Coach Peterson and his ability to develop players.  I like the family atmosphere of Dawson and especially within the basketball program.”

Lampten led his high school to a 25-11 season and finished as runners-up in the 6A district.

Byron Nelson’s head coach Scott Curran on Lampten’s signing, “Charles has a great work ethic and more importantly he is a tremendous teammate. He can run the floor and can really protect the rim. Charles is only going to get better. Dawson is getting a quality young man that has the drive to improve.”

Coach Peterson is looking forward to welcoming his new recruit, “Charles has a lot of potential.  His years of soccer have helped him develop good footwork.  He also has huge hands that are very soft.  With good feet and hands and his strong work ethic, we can develop the skills he needs to compete at a high level.  He is different from any other player in our program because of his length and ability to protect the rim.

DCC returns 9 players from last year’s team along with 2 redshirts.  Lampten is the 4th signee of the off-season for the Buccaneers.
